Boys and girls had separate entrances to Medicine Hat school

This historic Medicine Hat school is handsome and well-maintained. Below, close-ups of the two doors reveal how in the past there were separate entrances for boys and girls.

Reminded me of the "Ladies and Escorts" sign seen in childhood.

Such signs were common in the fifties and sixties. The "Men's Entrance" led to the same place, as each pub only had one room. There was no "Ladies' Entrance." Proper ladies were meant to know not to go in there unescorted by men!

A vintage "Ladies and Escorts" sign hangs in Leo's Pub and Grill in Pincher Creek.
